Bettws FC v Llangeinor
Bettws won this game 2-1 to finish 6
points ahead of their nearest challengers, Barry Town and win the
Welsh League 2nd Division title. Captain Paul Evans collected the
trophy from League chairman, Bob Fry.
The game itself was not a classic derby,
but with Llangeinor needing a point for 2nd Division safety they
took the lead in the 10th minute with a 25 yard lob by Terry Maggs
after Keeper Jonathan Davies header outside the box was not firm
enough and Maggs found the empty net.
It took another 60 minutes for Bettws to
get the equaliser. A Dean Simons corner found the head of Jamie
Morris who headed across the goal for Richard Llewellyn to bravely
head home with Steve John trying to punch clear. Ten minutes later
another Simons cross was met by the diving head of the experienced
Joff Wile whose power was no match for keeper Stephen John. Wile
was made up after him conceding the penalty at Llangeinor 3 weeks
ago which gave Llangeinor the point.
Manager Mark Sage praised the players
for a fantastic season. "they deserved this and the club belong in
the 1st Division".
